Alan Arkin

2003 Emmy Nominated: Supporting Actor, The Pentagon Papers

Born in New York City, Arkin is one of only five actors to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his first screen appearance (for The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming) in 1966. Two years later, he was again nominated, for The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. In a piece he wrote for the Second City book, Arkin wanted to be an actor since he was five. But the demands and pressures set on trying to make acting a career were pretty high, and Arkin struggled to make it.

Finally, after a performance in St. Louis he was noticed his talent and offered him a position in a comedy troupe in Chicago. After taking an entire year to decide, he headed out there and joined what would become The Second City comedy troupe, and what he considers to be the best thing he ever did.

Alan Arkin is nominated for the 2003's Supporting Actor in a Mini series or Movie for his work in "The Pentagon Papers".
