Before a freak accident cut her dreams short, Allison planned to become an Olympic skater. Moving on to the entertainment business instead, she was educated at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (as was Alan Rickman) and won an award for her work in "Present Laughter" in 1997 from the Outer Critics Circle before being discovered by Paul Newman and Joanne Woodword while performing a play in Gambier, Ohio.

Allison Janney is nominated for 2004's Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for her role on NBC's "The West Wing."
