2005 Emmy Nominated: Supporting Actress, The Shield

Born on Christmas Day, 1952, in Guyana, Africa, Carol Christine Hilaria Pounder attended school on a sugar cane plantation, and later in a convent in England. Following her parents move to New York, she enrolled in Ithaca College. There her acting talents began to bloom in classical and regional theatre. Early in her career she played opposite Morgan Freeman in "The Mighty Gents." She has received an Emmy nomination for "Best Supporting Actress" for her portrayal of Dr. Angela Hicks on "ER," and in the past has been nominated for an Emmy for an appearance on "The X-Files." She also writes spoken word poetry, and won a Grammy for her spoken word album "Grow Old Along With Me, The Best is Yet to Come."

CCH Pounder is nominated for 2005's Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Det. Claudette Wyms on Fox's "The Shield."
