Charlize Theron

2005 Emmy Nominated: Supporting Actress, The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers

Charlize Theron was born to Afrikaaner parents on a farm outside Benoni, South Afrika. She is named after her father, Charles. She began her career as a ballet dancer, appearing in productions of Swan Lake and the Nutcracker. After leaving South Africa she worked at the Joffrey Ballet in New York City. When an injured knee ended her dancing career, her mother gave her a plane ticket to Los Angles. An agent gave her card when she was standing in line at a bank, and since then she has appeared in such films as "The Cider House Rules," "The Legend of Bagger Vance," the "Italian Job," and won an Oscar for her performance in "Monster." She became the only the second actress in history to win an Oscar after appearing in Playboy.

Charlize Theron is nominated for 2005's Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Mini Series Or A Movie for her role as Britt Ekland in HBO's "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers."
