2006 Emmy Winner: Lead Actor in Drama, Law And Order

Chris Meloni is best known for two, drastically different roles. His first is a bisexual, perverted serial killer on HBO’s intense prison drama, “Oz.” The other is as an overly protective sex-crime investigator on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Although he has been successful in drama, most of his acting background took place in comedy.

The actor was born on April 2nd, 1961. He is of Italian ancestry on his father’s side, and French Canadian on his mother’s side. He grew up in Washington, D.C, and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Prior to working as an actor, Meloni worked in construction, as a bouncer, bartender and also as a personal trainer. He is married to designer Sherman Williams, with whom he has had two children.

Chris earned an Emmy nomination in 2006 for his role as Elliot Stabler on “Law & Order: SVU.” The category was Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
