Debra Winger

2005 Emmy Nominated: Lead Actress, Dawn Anna

"I have trouble with star billing. I remember thinking on Cannery Row (1982): How can I put my name ahead of Steinbeck's?" -Debra Winger

Debra Winger took a circuitous route to Hollywood stardom. She was born on May 16 1955 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. As a teenager she went to Israel, where she worked on a collective farm before serving in the Israeli armed forces. On her return to the U.S.A., she was partially paralyzed and temporarily blinded by an accident at an amusement park. While she lay recovering, she thought about what she wanted to do with her life and decided to pursue acting. She has earned two Oscar Nominations for Best Actress for her work in both "Terms of Endearment" and "Shadowlands." Most recently she's appeared in the drama "Sometimes in April."

Debra Winger is nominated for 2005's Outstanding Lead Actress In A Mini Series Or A Movie for her role as Dawn Anna in Lifetime's Televsion's "Dawn Anna."
