Denis Leary

2006 Emmy Nominated: Lead Actor, Rescue Me

Denis Leary is of Irish descent. He was born on August 18th, 1957 in Worcester, Massachusetts. His father was an Irish Catholic immigrant named John Leary. He holds both Irish and American citizenship and graduated from Saint Peter-Marian High School in Worcester.

Leary’s first mainstream success came through MTV, in a sketch in which he ranted about the rock band, R.E.M. He went on to release the stand-up comedy albums “No Cure for Cancer” in 1993 and “Lock n Load” in 1997. Leary released “Asshole” in the mid-90s; a comedic single about the American lower middle class man.

Although Leary’s forte is comedy, he has been involved in many dramatic projects. His latest success was nomination for an Emmy for his depiction of a recovering alcoholic firefighter in F/X’s “Rescue Me.”
Leary has been married to wife, Ann Lembeck since 1982. They have two children.
