He was a first class athlete growing up and attended Columbia University on a football scholarship. In Oklahoma he felt the call of acting, and began working on the stage and studying theatre. Harris' first major role was that of a killer in "Borderline," a film he worked on with Charles Bronson. He has received Oscar nominations for his work in "Apollo 13," "The Truman Show," and "Pollock."
