2005 Emmy Nominated: Lead Actor, House

James Hugh Calum Laurie was born on 11 June 1959 in Oxford, England. His father was an Olympic gold medalist in the sport of rowing, and young Hugh rowed for the England youth teem, and for Cambridge University. He was educated at Eton and Cambridge. Whenever there is a break in the filming of "House" he flies back to England to be with his wife and two children. Douglas Adams, author of "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy," wanted Hugh Laurie to play Arthur Dent opposite Jim Carey, but Adam's untimely death killed the deal. Apart from his acting, he as also written a bestselling thriller, entitled "The Gun Seller."

Hugh Laurie is nominated for 2005's Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series for the role of Dr. Gregory House in FOX's series "House."
