Joanne Woodward

2005 Emmy Nominated: Supporting Actress, Empire Falls

"Acting is like sex. You should do it, not talk about it." -Joanne Woodward

Joanne Woodward's mother was a tremendous fan of the movies, in fact Joanne was nearly born in a Joan Crawford movie. Her mother wanted to name her Joan, but seeing as the family lived in Georgia the more southern sounding Joanne was settled on. Her mother took her to the premier of Gone With the Wind, where she leaped into the lap of a surprised Lawrence Olivier. She attended LSU before embarking on an acting career. She won an Oscar for "The Three Faces of Eve" in 1957 for playing a woman with multiple personalities.

Joanne Woodward is nominated for 2005's Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Mini Series Or A Movie for her role as Francine Whiting in HBO's "Empire Falls."
