John Mahoney
2003 Emmy Nominated: Supporting actor, Frasier
John Mahoney was born June 20, 1940 in Blackpool, England.
He is likely best known for his role as Martin "Marty" Crane
in the NBC comedy series Frasier, portraying the retired policeman father
of Kelsey Grammer's character Dr. Frasier Crane. Mahoney studied at Quincy
University, Illinois before joining the United States Army and subsequently
becoming a U.S. citizen. He later settled in Chicago and taught English
at several colleges. Ironically, Mahoney also appeared in an episode of
Cheers as an inept jingle writer, including a brief conversation with
Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer).
Mahoney has had several supporting roles in major Hollywood
productions since his time on Frasier - including Reality Bites, Primal
Fear, and a voice in the animated movie Antz.
John Mahoney is nominated for his role in the NBC comedy series "Frasier".
