2004 Emmy Nominated: Lead Actress, angels in america

Considered by many to be the greatest living film actress, Meryl had initially planned to become an opera singer but became enamoured of acting while a student at Vassar, and enrolled in the Yale School of Drama after graduation. She gave an incredible performance right out of the gate, gaining critical praise for her role in "Julia," her first movie, and was nominated for an Academy award the following year for her appearance in "Deer Hunter." This became a trend with the actress, having ultimately been nominated for 13 Academy awards! She won two, her first for "Kramer vs. Kramer" and her second for "Sophie's Choice." Though she started young, she continues to amaze audiences with her work, a career that has spanned nearly 30 years. And counting.
