Epatha Merkerson
2005 Emmy Nominated: Lead Actress, Lackawanna Blues 
S. Epatha Merkerson was born on 28 November, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan. She earned a BFA from Wayne State University, and then in 1978 she moved to New York to begin a theatre career. She won a Tony for her work in "The Piano Lesson," and added an Obie to her collection for her performance in "I'm Not Stupid." She appeared on "Pee Wee's Play House" and the on "The Cosby Show," before she landed a role Law and Order in 1993. Currently she is the actor with the longest time at the show, and her character, Anita Van Burne, is also the longest running African-American character in a dramatic TV series.
